"The SH22 Raglan Ride"

The SH22 Raglan Run from Auckland, back through Hamilton and Tahuna by-pass.

This is 390km and approx 6-7 hours riding round trip + rests and gas or an overnight stay in Raglan or Hamilton.

This makes an ideal overnight run, but can be down in a whole day.

Leave SH1 at Mercer go over the bridge and to head down SH22, you need to make a right hand at the first road junction and then a left hand turn at the next, this takes you into Pukekawa and then follow the road. SH22 is a windy road and can be uneven with sections of gravel, you must do a right hand turn before the Waingaro pub otherwise you have gone too far. Waingaro is a lovely old pub and good basic tucker there plus accommodation if you ever need it, with hot pools beside it. Before you reach the Waingaro pub do a right to get to Raglan, this is another outback road with views of upper Raglan harbour, once to get to the end of this do a right and that will take you to Raglan.

Accommodation at Raglan is good at the pub, holiday park or some other venues, or you can travel onto Hamilton. From Hamilton get onto the Morrinsville Road, to avoid the city take SH3 then SH21 and onto SH26, if you are staying in town just head east and you will find it.

The Morrinsville road is a nice country road with not many cars on it and flows through the countryside, to the farming town of Morrinsville, from there you take the northern exit to head to the Tahuna by-pass which leads to SH1. At Tahuna there is a lovely old country pub if you need a rest, food or a drink. The Tahuna  by-pass Road is fabulous road, with classic countryside, swamp and takes you through the back blocks of the northern Waikato to pop out on the main highway, SH1 back to Auckland. This makes for a good round trip in the Waikato region.

"The Miranda - Kawakawa Ride"

Auckland, Mercer, Te Kauwhata, Ngatea, Kopu, Miranda, Kawakawa Bay, Auckland.

This 264km ride has some interesting and scenic riding through swamps to coastlands throughout the North Waikato reaches. There are plenty of stops to rest have a bite and meet other bikers along the way. This makes for a good long day trip or could encompass an overnight staying in Thames or Kopu.
